Enjoy a rewarding position as a Support Specialist with day time hours! This position would be less than 30 hours per week, flexible between 8am - 4pm.  No weekends, position is M-F only

 

Job Summary

The Support Specialist provides service to designated individuals with developmental disabilities to effectively carry out instructions to satisfy service outcomes and supervise work production as outlined by their Coordinated Service and Support Plan (CSSP) Addendum. The Support Specialists help clients develop their abilities, strategies, teach job-specific skills and appropriate work behaviors.  Become accustomed with the background, specific needs, and safety precautions for each client in their assigned area.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in carrying out clients' work program and training.
  • Engage with individuals each day to achieve their goals while being sensitive to their needs to maximize their accomplishments.
  • Develop a clear understanding of clients' backgrounds and specific needs and become familiar about safety precautions for each individual.
  • Keep required records of clients' activities who are working in the program.
  • Provide necessary transportation to and from the client's residence and also community sites in conjunction with other staff and team members. May need to use own vehicle.
  • Take an active interest and participate in departmental activities and programs.
  • Provide training to co-workers on clients and their service requirements.
  • Follow safety procedures and assist in identifying safety needs for self and others.
  • Attend trainings and team meetings as assigned.
  • Contribute to the organization's mission by complying with policies and procedures and performing other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • A High School diploma or equivalence. At least one year related work experience desired.
  • Must pass both the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services background check and physical exam indicating ability to perform physical demands of the job.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation to use for work driving purposes.
  • Solid interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong compassion and understanding to the needs of individuals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ensure the security and protection of clients at work.

 

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

 

Environment

The environment will vary dependent on the individual's assigned department. Work is typically fast-paced and noise level is moderate.
